Degree Types

Associate of Science in Teaching Degree (A.S.T.)

Up for a rewarding challenge? Study the elementary school years (K-3) and you will learn how to make a lasting, positive influence on children's lives. Begin at Motlow and continue to earn your BS at one of our partner universities. Motlow has 2+2 agreements with Tennessee Tech University and Middle Tennessee State University.

Associate of Science Degree (A.S.)

University Parallel

The associate of science degree prepares students for transfer to a four-year university. Motlow has articulation agreements with Tennessee State University, Athens State and Lipscomb. Family and Consumer Science is a Tennessee Transfer Pathway.

Tennessee Transfer Pathways (TTPs) enable you to complete your two-year degree at Motlow and then transfer to any Tennessee public university, and several Tennessee private universities, as a junior to complete your four-year bachelor’s degree.

Associate of Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.)

Early Childhood Education

The AAS is a two-year degree plan designed for you to complete and quickly enter the workforce.

Early Childhood Education is typically focused on preschool education.

Education Certificates

Certificates are designed to prepare you for occupational employment. Requirements vary by area of study.

At Motlow, you can receive a certificate to assist you when working with young children.

Certificates can be used as part of the Child Development Association (CDA) process and as building blocks to obtain the next higher-level certificate or A.A.S.

Earn an Associate Degree AND Your Bachelor's Degree at Motlow State

The 2+2 is a partnership that allows you to earn two degrees in a single, full-time course of study. These are the Associate of Science in Teaching degree, and a BA in Elementary Education, grades K-5.

Accreditation

The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Early Childhood Education at Motlow State Community College is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Early Childhood Higher Education Programs of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, www.naeyc.org. The accreditation term runs from 2015 through 2022.
