Become a Central Processing Technician

Central Processing Technicians ensure the safety, sterilization, and organization of medical equipment. These technicians are essential in maintaining the safety of patients and assisting in the efficiency of medical staff. Motlow State’s new certification in Central Processing on the Fayetteville campus requires only one year of education before you can transfer to the workforce and begin your career.

Tasks involved in being a Central Processing Technician are:

  • Sterilizing, organizing, and delivering medical equipment for medical exams, surgeries, and procedures
  • Preparing sterile gowns and protective gear for OR staff
  • Collecting and disinfecting surgical instrumentation
  • Creating post-procedure instrumentation reports
  • Controlling inventory
  • Removing medical waste

Medical careers are in increasingly high demand, but many medical positions can require years of education and extensive funds. Central Processing is an expedient opportunity that will allow you to save money and time on your education and quickly begin earning a living wage.

Classes in this program will cover topics such as medical terminology, storage and distribution, types of surgical instruments, quality assurance, decontamination, disease control, and infection prevention.
