Motlow College Foundation Establishes Nursing Scholarship Honoring Vera Ann Patton Tenney
October 12, 2022
The Motlow College Foundation recently received a contribution from the Tenney family to establish the Vera Ann Patton Tenney Memorial Endowed Nursing Scholarship. The gift recognizes and honors Vera’s dedication and service in the nursing field.
She returned to nursing school as a non-traditional student after the death of her husband of 21 years. At 43, she graduated from the Akron School of Nursing in 1980 and received her LPN certification from the state of Ohio later that same year.
In March of 1981, she received her certification from the state of Tennessee, and in May that same year, she moved back to Tennessee to be closer to most of her sisters and brothers. She loved Pelham, Tenn., where she grew up and enjoyed her 22-year career in nursing at the hospital in Winchester.
She was able to help two of her children graduate from Motlow State Community College. The family is happy to set up the scholarship to help give back to the area and career that gave her so much joy.
