Motlow’s BUCKS' Academy connects new and returning students with trained peer mentors who provide guidance, encouragement, and practical support throughout their college journey. Through the BUCKS' Academy program, students gain early access to success strategies, one-on-one mentoring, and a strong campus network. Whether you’re a first-generation student, an adult learner, or taking online courses, BUCKS' Academy helps you build confidence, stay on track, and achieve your goals at Motlow.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE Bucks' ACADEMY?

  • ALL students with a learning support may participate, but the program has a focus on learning support, adult, and online learners 
  • We highly encourage students who fall into the following categories:
  • First Generation
  • Pell Eligible
  • Learning Support Courses
  • Online Students
  • Adults

WHAT IS BUCKS' ACADEMY? 

  • One component of the BUCKS' Academy is an Institute that prepares students to be successful at Motlow before the semester begins.  
  • BUCKS' Academy will focus on helping students choose majors that will help them become economically independent.
  • BUCKS' Academy members will have a peer mentor that will help them with their transition to Motlow.
  • Throughout the Fall and Spring semesters, students are encouraged to attend student success meetings and special events.

WHEN IS THE INSTITUTE?

Once a week in September/February (time determined by cohort)

WHY SHOULD STUDENTS PARTICIPATE?

  • BUCKS' Academy participants have a higher chance of continuing at Motlow than students that don’t attend.
  • BUCKS' Academy will help acclimate students to the campus before other school begins.
  • BUCKS' Academy will allow students to build a strong support system with administration, faculty, peer mentors, and fellow participants.

IMPORTANT POINTS

  • BUCKS' Academy is designed to serve all students with a focus on the needs of first generation, Pell Eligible, online, and students who face barriers in obtaining a quality education.
  • BUCKS' Academy will provide students a head start to the college and prepare them in critical areas of time-management, studying, test taking, college reading, math, and much more through an online Institute.
  • BUCKS' Academy will allow students to build a strong support system with administration, faculty, peer mentors, and fellow participants.
  • BUCKS' Academy participants will have a higher retention rate than those students who do not join the Academy.
