“Chari-Tea” Raises Charitable Donations
April 24, 2025
On April 16, the Motlow College Foundation hosted its annual Motlow Ladies Philanthropic Society (MLPS) “Chari-tea” at the Marcum Technology Center. The event raised $6,000 to support scholarships for students over the age of 25 who are pursuing higher education but often do not qualify for traditional financial aid.

Founded in 2009, the Motlow Ladies Philanthropic Society is a network of women dedicated to uplifting nontraditional students through mentorship, encouragement, and financial assistance.
The “Chari-tea” is a signature gathering of the Society, bringing together members and supporters to celebrate progress and hear directly from those impacted by the MLPS mission. Each year, past scholarship recipients are invited to share how the support they’ve received has shaped their academic journeys and personal lives. This year, the over 60 guests heard from two inspiring speakers, Nickie Fanning and Kimberly Snipes, who offered powerful testimonies during the event.
Fanning, a 2012 Motlow graduate, is now a Student Success Advisor at Motlow pursuing a master’s degree at East Tennessee State University. She spoke of the transformative impact of education and her commitment to helping others succeed.
Snipes, a nursing student and advocate for mental health awareness, shared her challenges and triumphs as she works toward becoming a psychiatric RN. Her story reflected resilience and the importance of community support in higher education.
The MLPS continues to grow in both reach and impact thanks to the commitment of women across the region who donate $100 or more annually to the Motlow College Foundation. Their efforts ensure that more adult learners have access to the resources they need to succeed.
