February 3, 2022

Laura BoothLaura Booth has been named Dean of the Motlow State Community College Smyrna campus. Booth, a native of Franklin, N.C., started at Motlow earlier this year.

“I love working with a diverse group of people and I am excited to join the Motlow family,” said Booth. “I was looking for a new challenge and a fresh start doing what I enjoy.”

“We are happy to have Laura join our team here at Motlow,” said Charle Coffey, interim executive vice president for Student Success and Academic Affairs. “She is a valuable addition to our Smyrna campus and to Motlow State.”

Prior to Motlow, Booth served as a dean and math professor at Georgia Military College and previously taught high school math.

She earned her Master’s degree in Math Education from Western Governor’s University after obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in Math from Western Carolina University. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education.

As a dean, it is her job to enforce policies and uphold academic integrity. She also wants to ensure that students leave Motlow prepared for whatever comes next.

“I am a supporter. I want to ensure faculty have everything they need to be able to do their jobs,” she explained. “Students are our focus. I want to make sure they are well educated, comfortable, and also challenged.”

Booth said she most enjoys being a mentor for others.

“I love teaching. I find that being a dean helps me touch the lives of more students,” said Booth. “Being able to make a difference is what I enjoy the most.”
